Nuton came to us with no brand, no packaging, just an innovative health food product. Our job was to design their brand and packaging, helping them to launch successfully on Amazon’s marketplace.

The final design was optimized to win 42% market share of a competitive set in a simulating buying scenario. Not only that, but Nuton saw a 92% increase in BSR (best seller ranking) on Amazon.

The Brief

Create a new brand for a fast-growing product.

Nuton is a natural MCT oil product, designed to boost brain power and focus. Prior to their launch on Amazon, they needed a complete brand design, from the logo to the packaging, to the messaging on the box.

The Challenge

How can you successfully launch a new private label brand on Amazon?

It takes brains to launch a brand. And with Amazon’s crowded marketplace, it’s even more important to get it right. One misstep and your launch will fizzle out, nobody will find your product, and you’ll need to start over.

Every good brand design starts with strategy. We realized we could position Nuton as a more feminine product, in contrast to the male-dominated MCT market. We could also improve on the competition with minor tweaks to the bottle design.

The Process

Brand Strategy

A lot of other MCT oil brands were focused on sports nutrition. Their branding was dark and masculine. This presented an opportunity to dial in on the “brainfood” qualities of Nuton, and using more feminine packaging to stand out from the rest.

Packaging Design

Nuton is a clever combo of nutrition and Newton, playing on the brain power angle. We discovered competitors’ customers complained about poor quality bottles, so we pushed to innovate on the substrate – adding a cork stop to prevent leakage.

Packaging Testing

Out of the 16 design candidates, the best performing one was able to outperform existing competitors in a simulated buying experience. In fact, it was able to capture a market share of 42%. This went a long way to helping Nuton achieve a successful launch.
