Little River Smokehouse is a Native American company owned by the Fort Belknap Indian Community of Gros Ventre and Assiniboine tribes. The Montana-based business specializes in beef and buffalo jerky and sausages, and Little River Smokehouse was having trouble standing out on a crowded shelf.
SmashBrand was given the opportunity to essentially redefine what jerky looks like on the shelf from a consumer view, and we weren’t willing to create more of the same. With eye-searing oranges and deep reds all over the place, we knew Little River Smokehouse needed an aesthetic that broke the mold without alienating jerky lovers everywhere.
Our goal was to fold style choices like attractive but not over-the-top colors and sharp cultural design elements into a unique overall blend of old and new that spoke to the company culture as well as the consumer. The result is a visually pleasing, almost innovative glimpse inside the package (with mountain peaks providing a window into all that delicious jerky flavor) while showcasing the company and cultural pride.
